I got a bunch of rips from my bro who works for Variety in Korea. He has everything written in Korean, so I'm not sure what the English titles are, but here is the list:
빈집
말죽거리 잔혹사
영어완전정복
장화 홍련
바람의 파이터
범죄의 재구성
Please let me know what's worth watching!
I watched 말아톤 (Marathon?) a week or so ago, and I thought it sucked. It's about a guy with a disability (I think he's autistic) who runs to be somewhat normal in his life. I thought it was weak, compared to Oasis, which kind of addresses a similar topic with more poignancy and depth.

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Wed, January 25, 2006 - 10:24 PMHey all, has anyone had an opportunity to watch the movie 'Heaven's Soldiers' directed by Min Jun Ki and released in September 2005?
Ostensibly the movie tells the story of a group of North Korean commandos, who kidnap a Sth Korean defence scientist, (responsible for the development of a secret weapon by the Sth) and how a Sth Korean unit is sent to rescue her.
Somehow they all stumble into a vortex in time and find themselves back in 16th century Korea where they eventualy meet up with one of Korea's most celebrated military figures, (and find him less than what he is made out to be).

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Sun, January 29, 2006 - 10:22 PMThe fourth one, 장화 홍련, aka Tale of Two Sisters, is one of the few horror movies I think is very well done. More artistic and psychological than just pure monsters, the cast is great, and the soundtrack is very beautiful. Enjoy. -

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Mon, January 30, 2006 - 2:46 AMThey've just screened this movie on Oz tv last week, (pay-tv) I've watched it twice and while the cast were simply great, I didn't get into this film as much as I thought I would and for me, Korean horror flicks rank among the best for atmosphere, etc..
I would however recommend any person to watch this film........... Of its type, it is very well done.

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Tue, January 31, 2006 - 8:27 PMCan someone translate these Korean titles into the English titles so that I can find them on netflix? I've been pretty successful in finding these Korean movies on neflix (e.g. 빈집- aka 3 Iron). -

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 6:43 AMI think 장화 홍련 (two sisters) would be best.
It's very well made cinema.
Also the OST of that cinema is really good.
that musician is Lee Byung Woo, very famous musician and professor of Seoul National Univ.

Re: Movie List - Tell me what to watch!
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 4:49 PMSorry to get in so late on this, but my top five would include these seven:
- Memories of Murder (2003) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm03.html#memories )
- The Host (2006) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm06.html#thehost )
(best monster ever)
both of the above were directed by Bong Joon-ho
- Untold Scandal (2003) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm03.html#scandal )
- Virgin Stripped Bare by her Bachelors (2000) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm00.html#soojung )
(with Woman is the Future of Man as a followup, but not as good)
unfortunately, the actress Lee Eun-ju killed herself a few years later.
- A Tale of Two Sisters ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm03.html#janghwa )
- Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (2003) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm03.html#springsum )
- My Sassy Girl (2001) ( koreanfilm.org/kfilm01.html#yupki )
(but the final act was really sappy)
Taegukgi was way too melodramatic and Hollywood blod-and-gore for me,
and Shiri just seemed too contrived, but entertaining anyway. Attack the Gas Station was
pretty funny. Old Boy and Musa are supposed to be really good, but I haven't seen them.
I haven't seen a lot more, and I'm sure there are plenty of other deserving ones,
but those I really liked.
